TEST EVERYTHING...
The Apostle Paul EXPECTED Christians to be discerning...to TEST EVERYTHING ! He wrote to the Church in Thessalonica ( 1 Thessalonians 5:19-23): 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test EVERYTHING ; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that this verse does not simply apply to "prophetic words", but actually the Apostle wanted followers of Jesus to be testing EVERYTHING. He didn't qualify what was to be tested so I'm going to go with the broadest possible interpretation. I don't think we will get rebuked for testing too many things by the Lord. It has been said that Jesus and the Apostles spoke 6X more about deception than about persecution as they sought to prepare future disciples for the future. I don't know who added the verses up
