LENT 2024 - DAY 11 - For those who try to minimize fasting from food using Isaiah 58
In defense of their "fasting-free" livestyles, many Christians will cite Isaiah 58 as justification for why they don't fast from food.
This, however, is an abuse/misuse of Scripture and is clearly motivated by something else entirely for those who make this excuse.
The earliest Christians once again shed light onto this subject.
Did they know and cite Isaiah 58? Absolutely!
Did they ALSO fast from food as part of their Christian lifestyles? Again, YES!
They were both/and followers of Jesus - they abstained from evil (Isaiah 58's admonition) AND they fasted from food in their Christian lives.
